Dr. Mahendra Narain Path Inaugurated

Dr. Mahendra Narain Path InauguratedDeputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, on the occasion of the 70th birth anniversary of Dr. Mahendra Narain on Saturday, in the presence of the family members of Dr. Narain and a number of state officials, inaugurated the naming of the road between Dinkar Chowk and Rajendra Nagar Over-bridge roundabout in Patna as Dr. Mahendra Narain Path.

Late Dr. Narain, who died on April 30, was not only known as a doctor 'with a healing touch', he was also an outstanding citizen and a compassionate physician who would often work late in night to ensure all his patients, many coming from far away places in Bihar, were treated with utmost care and kindness.

Dr. Mahendra NarainDr. Narain, in recognition of his exemplary work, was honored with the prestigious "Patna Ratna" (the gem of Patna) award in 1990 and "Bihar Vibhuti" (The doyen of Bihar) in 1995.

Besides Modi, among others who were present at the road-renaming ceremony included Patna Mayor Sanjay Kumar, retired IPS G. Narain, Patna Central legislator Arun Kumar, Sunit Kumar, IG Police Dr. S. Raza, Dr. H. R. P.Verma, Dr. A. K. Thakur, Dr. S. N. Mishra, Dr. Ranjan Akhauri, Dr. B. K.Verma, Dr. V. N. Prasad, Mr. R. R. Verma ADG Police, Dr. B. K. Karak, Dr. B. N. Prasad, Mr. Ajay Narain, Dr. Rajay Narain, Mr. Amit Narain, Mr. R. K. Verma, Mr. D. K. Verma , Mr. S. K. Shah, Dr. Gopal Prasad Sinha, and Dr. Brij Lall.

The Dr. Mahendra Narain Foundation, during the Saturday event, announced its intent to launch a fully equipped Mobile Ambulance to be used for the benefit of the people of Bihar.

The foundation, formed to honor and carry on the legacy and dedication of Dr. Narain, also celebrated its 2nd anniversary on Saturday.

Several free medical camps for the people of Bihar have been organized by the foundation since its inception in 2005.

Dr. Mahendra Narain Foundation to Hold Free Health Camp

Dr. Mahendra Narain Foundation will be organizing a free heart, blood pressure, and eye checkup camp on the occasion of 2nd anniversary of the death of eminent Physician Dr. Mahendra Narain. The Camp is scheduled to start at 10:00 am on April 29, 2007 at Sri Ramakrishna Mission, Nala Road, Patna.

Talking to Punyatma Sharan, a PatnaDaily consultant, Dr Rajay Narain, the son of Dr. Mahendra Narain, said the camp will be inaugurated by the state Health Minister Chandramohan Rai and Ramashray Prasad Singh, Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources Development Minister will be the Chief Guest on the occasion, Dr. Narain said.

Several prominent physicians, cardiologists, ophthalmologists, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeon, and dermatologists of Bihar including former Union Minister Dr. C. P. Thakur, Dr. S. N. Arya, Dr. H. R. P. Verma, Dr. Gopal Pd. Sinha, Dr. S. K. Didwania, Dr. S. N. Mishra, Dr. U. K. Jha, Dr. V. N. Prasad, Dr. Achal Sinha, Dr. S. P. Jaipuriyar, Dr. A. Bhawnani, Dr. Ranjan Akhauri, Dr. S. Raza, Dr. B. N. Prasad, Dr. Bimal Karak, Dr. Vinay Karak, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. K. M. Sahay, Dr. Vinod Sinha, and Dr. Brij Lal will be participating in the event.

Since last year, the Foundation has organized various health camps in and around Patna with the help of renowned doctors and medical fraternity of the state for the underprivileged class of the society.

The Foundation is soon going to launch a mobile health van to carry out health program in the rural areas of Bihar, Dr. Narain said.

Diabetes Screening Camp Organized in Bikramganj

Over 600 people turned up at the two-day Diabetes Detection Camp under the banner of Dr. Mahendra Narain Diabetes Screening Project in Bikram organized by the Vidyawati Eye Trust.

The camp was run under the leadership of leading eye specialist Dr. V. N. Prasad and assisted by noted physician Dr. S. Raza.

According to the event officials, nearly 3% of those who turned up at the the camp were detected to be suffering from diabetes.

The patients were offered free diabetic retinopathy screening and advices to keep diabetes in check.

So far, more than 6,000 people have been given free tests and medical advises in various such camps held in Patna and areas around it during the entire 2006, officials said.

The project has also set up a base hospital near Bypass Road in Kankarbagh to carry out eye-related projects and plans to expand its functioning in other areas of Bihar as well particularly in rural regions where people are unable to afford decent medical treatment for their eyes.

Prof. Kanka Mallick of Manchester, UK, has already donated an ambulance for patients living in rural areas.

Mahendra Narain Foundation to Launch
More Health Program

Patna, November 9, 2006: On the eve of birth anniversary of eminent physician Dr. Mahendra Narain, the Dr Mahendra Narain Foundation will be launching many more health program in Bihar in early part of 2007, the late doctor's son Amit Narain said in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The program will focus mainly on heart-related ailments and hypertension and will chiefly serve the segment of the society that cannot afford treatment for related diseases, he said.

Narain also expressed his gratitude to the doctors and volunteers who participated in the health camp earlier held last April during which more than 300 patients received free advice, treatment and medicines. He also thanked Vidyawati Eye Trust, Patna, and the Ram Krishna Mission Ashram in Patna for their assistance in carrying out the Diabetic Retinopathy project and Heart Check up camps respectively.

Prof. Konka Mallick Verma of Manchester, UK, would donate an ambulance to the Trust for health projects, Narain said.

On behalf of the foundation, he also thanked Dr Ashok Seth, Cardiologist, Max Hospital, New Delhi, and Prof. Randeep Guleria, Prof. of Medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi for delivering the first memorial lecture.

In honor of the noted physician who died in April 2005, a gold medal in the name of Dr. Mahendra Narain was also announced to be awarded each year to the topper of MBBS (final) of Patna Medical College and Hospital, Narain said.

Dr. Mahendra Narain Foundation Holds
Free Health Camp

Patna, May 1, 06: About 300 persons received free consultation from leading doctors of Bihar for a variety of ailments including heart disease and hypertension at a charitable medical camp organized on the eve of the first death anniversary of noted physician Dr Mahendra Narain at Ram Krishna Mission campus here on Saturday.

An initiative of the Dr Mahendra Narain Foundation, free medicines were distributed among the patients at the camp which was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. IGIC director Dr S. N. Mishra, Dr Ranjan Akhauri, Dr Gopal Prasad Sinha, Dr Brij Lal, Dr V. N. Prasad, Dr A. K. Bhawnani, Dr Bimal Karak were among those who offered their services at the camp, according to the late Narain’s son Rajay Narain.

The foundation also organized a lecture at the L. N. Mishra Institute in memory of Dr Narain where Dr Ashok Seth spoke on 'Advances in Management of International Cardiology – Future is Here' and Dr Randeep Guleria of AIIMS spoke on 'Bird Flu – Threat of Pandemic' and warned against swimming in pools in bird flu affected areas.

Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Rajya Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad praised the efforts made by Dr Mahendra Narain Foundation for providing help to the poor and the needy.

DR MAHENDRA NARAIN MEMORIAL TALK & HEALTH CAMP

Health Talk on important Medical Issues surrounding the Medical Field today has been organised with two of India's most eminent medical professionals participating. This will be held on 30th April at L. N. Mishra Institute, Bailey Road, Patna at 5pm.

Dr Ashok Seth Chairman & Chief Cardiologist Max Hospital, New Delhi will speak on "Advances in Management of Interventional Cardiology - future is here".

Dr. (Prof.) Randeep Guleria Professor of Medicine AIIMS, New Delhi will speak on Bird flu - threat of a pandemic.

A HYPERTENSION AND HEART DISEASE DETECTION & EYE CHECK UP CAMP

A Hypertension and Heart Disease Detection & Eye Check Up Camp will be organised on 29th April in memory of Dr Narain at Ram Krishna Mission Ashram, Nala Road, Patna from 10 am to 2 pm. Shri Sushil Kr. Modi, Dy. Chief Minister, Bihar will inaugurate The Health Camp.

The camp will be attended by leading Physicians of the state including Dr C P Thakur, Dr S N Arya, Dr Gopal Pd. Sinha, Dr S K Didwania, Dr S N Mishra Director IGIC, Dr V N Prasad (Eye Specialist), Dr B K Verma (Eye Specialist, Ranchi), Dr Ashok Bhawnani, Dr Bimal Karak, Dr B N Prasad, Dr S Raza, Dr Binay Karak, Dr Arun Kumar, Dr Binod Kr Sinha, Dr K M Sahay and Dr Rajay Narain.

As part of the Project newly diagnosed patient with hypertension and heart disease will be offered further help with investigations and treatment.

The Project has been linked with British Heart Foundation, which will supply specially prepared Hindi version of Information Booklets on Hypertension & Heart Disease.

DR MAHENDRA NARAIN DIABETES PROJECT

Patna, 24 Dec 05: More than 300 people were screened today for Diabetes as part of Dr Mahendra Narain Diabetes Project being held under supervision of Dr V N Prasad, Eye Specialist, Patna. The camp was organised in Nargada area of Danapur, Patna(India). Several people were detetcted with possible Diabetes who will undergo further tests free of charge to confirm Diabetes and will be given further medical advice.

The camp will continue tomorrow in the Danapur area.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that the number of adults with diabetes in the world will increase alarmingly from 135 millions in 1995 to 3000 millions in 2025.In India this increase is expected to be the greatest. Nearly 195% from 18 millions in 1995 to 54 million in 2025.

Hence, the main aims and objectives of the project is:

  • To above all create awareness in the general population on diabetes & diabetic retinopathy
  • Screen people every year for diabetes and diabetic retinopathy
  • To emphasize the importance of maintaining a Diabetic-Register by all concerned in the management of diabetes such as the government hospitals, diabetologists, physicians, paediatricians, ophthalmologist & pathologists
  • To prepare a computerised data bank of the entire diabetic population. By collecting data from the various Diabetic-Registers
  • Train general physician and general ophthalmologist to detect early diabetic retinopathy changes
  • To train ophthalmologist in FA and laser photocoagulation
  • To help create a model for diabetic retinopathy screening and treatment in state of Bihar
  • To estimate the prevalence of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy
  • Help to develop interventional strategies to prevent the complication related to diabetes
  • To prepare the awareness material on diabetes and DR Hindi & English (posters, flyers, films) and
  • To train ophthalmic assistant and optometrist in reading digital fundus photographs of the diabetic & DR patients.

PATNA: Vidyawati Eye Trust, an NGO working in the field of eye care, launched the Dr Mahendra Narain Diabetes/Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Project, here on Sunday. The project has been launched in the memory of the eminent physician, the late Dr Mahendra Narain.

Dr Narain had always worked to create awareness among the masses about the health hazards related to diabetes and methods of diabetic management. The trust, under the project, also held a camp with the help of funds donated by family and friends.

Many people above 35 years of age underwent free diabetes tests. Those found to be diabetic, also had an eye check-up for diabetic retinopathy. Retinopathy often leads to complete blindness.

"According to reports published by the WHO, India with a population of nearly 40 million diabetics, is fast emerging as the country with maximum number of diabetic cases," said managing trustee V N Prasad.


Diabetes, retinopathy project to be launched

Patna, October 19: A SPECIAL diabetes detection and retinopathy-screening project will be launched here this weekend in the memory of noted physician Dr Mahendra Narain, who passed away earlier this year. To be executed by eye specialist Dr V N Prasad, the project will get underway with a camp to be inaugurated on October 23 by Dr Narain 's wife, Renuka Narain.

The camp will be organised under the banner of the Vidyawati Eye Trust, at the site of its proposed hospital on New By-pass road, according to a Press released issued by Dr Narain's son, Dr Rajay Narain. He said a chapter of the project had been launched in the United Kingdom also, with leading consultant physicians, researchers, and educationists as its members.

Awareness talks on diabetes will also be organised under the project, which is in process of being linked with major Diabetes Associations of UK and India.

The first such awareness talk will be held in Gaya. The main aim of the project is to create public awareness about diabetes and diabetic retinopathy. A computerised data bank of the entire diabetic population has also been proposed.
